Celebrating the Advent season:
Advent is the liturgical season marked by a spiritual time of prayerful waiting, expectation, and preparation: remembering the birth of Christ in the past, awareness of his presence in our hearts today, and awaiting his Second Coming in the future. There are a number of activities that families can do together…i.e. they can light a candle each week to represent a part of scripture and to reflect on the coming of Christ (see below) or families can work on an “Advent Calendar”
- Candle one (purple) represents hope. It is often called the prophets’ candle.
- Candle two (purple) represents peace. It is often called the angels’ candle.
- Candle three (pink) represents joy. It is often called the shepherds’ candle.
- Candle four (purple) represents love. It is often called the Bethlehem candle.
Prayer focus: Dear Father God…We thank you for your precious gift of Jesus who died for all the bad things of this world and the bad things I have done and will ever do in my life. Thank you that we can celebrate his life. Help us to be “fishers of men, to follow you & share your love and truth with others. In Jesus name. Amen
