Theme: Preparing For Easter

Text:  Matthew 26:38-46


  1. Jesus Suffered for Real.

“My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Matt 26:39

  1. Our Sin is Costly

       What is Sin?

“sin” throughout the Bible revolves  largely around two major concepts. The first is that of transgression. To transgress means “to step across” or “to go beyond a set boundary or limit.”

Most of the other words translated “sin” in the Bible involve a second concept, “to miss the mark.” This view of sin includes the concept of our going in one direction but straying off course to the side and not continuing in the direction we intended to go, with the result that we don’t reach the goal we intended. We miss.

  1. God’s Love is Amazing

“My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.” – Matt 26:42 

4. Ways to prepare our hearts and minds for Easter.

     A. Begin to focus on Easter during the weeks before.

B. Keep an open heart toward the Lord by confessing sin.

C. Take time to notice and embrace the seasonal change of spring.

Are there times in your life that you have learned to pray something similar to Jesus’ prayer that you would put God’s will ahead of your will?
