Silence and Centering (PAUSE FOR 2 MINUTES OF SILENCE)
“Be still, and know that I am God!- Psalm 46:10
Dear Lord, we worship You as our God and King, as the One true God, as the faithful Guardian of our souls. We come to You in this time of worship to stop, to breathe, and to listen. We want to open our hearts to You and share our secrets, our sins, and our lack of faith.
We lay it all out before You. We confess that we have sinned and are in desperate need of Jesus, our Redeemer. We have followed the enticing idols offered by the world instead of worshiping You alone. In the safe place of prayer, Lord, hear our hearts speak. We are sorry; please forgive us. Holy Spirit, come inside our hearts and transform us by Your love and forgiveness. Fill us with Your grace and hope. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
“So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.”
Romans 14:19 (NLT)
You would think that the church would be the first place we would look for a group that is building each other up, but it’s not always the case. We can hurt each other just like any other group. It takes hard work to live in harmony. We come from so many diverse backgrounds with so many different temperaments, beliefs, emotions, assumptions, experiences and wounds that without concerted effort, it is impossible not to hurt each other. That is why Paul said to “aim” for harmony and to “try” to build each other up. It is not easy, but this wasn’t just some light hearted request. We must try. We must do all that we can to love each other as Christ would love us. As we submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He will produce in us the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Then we will begin to build each other up in ways that will result in harmony. So today ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, mold you and use you and let us aim for harmony and begin to build each other up.
Dear Holy Spirit, I invite You to produce Your fruit in my life. I want to live in harmony with others and help build them up. In Jesus’ name. AMEN
If today’s devotion spoke to you in a particular way and you feel led to share your thoughts with others, please do so.
