September Prayer & Fasting Focus

The month of September has been chosen to pray and fast for the ministry of Focus Community Church. Please pray for the upcoming season and victory towards the next step of progress. We are rapidly coming upon our 1st Anniversary of Public Worship and ministry in Plainfield NJ. It is time for us to prepare our hearts for the new season of harvest.

Each person is asked to take time to pray specifically for the victory and next upcoming season of where God is leading us. Find a set time where that time is completely focused on you and God and your petitions in agreement with the corporate goal for the September focus. Find specific Scriptures that you can pray that meet the need we mentioned.

We understand that many people are not aware of fasting so would like to mention a few simple ways you might consider. Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast.

Anything given up temporarily in order to focus All Our Attention on God can be considered a fast. Remember fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us.

  1. Give up one meal a day, or more, depending on what you feel comfortable with. Daniel Fast: fruit, vegetables and no meat for a set time.
  2. Refrain from sweets, or some other foods that are important to you.
  3. Refrain from some form of entertainment. Movies, TV, Facebook, etc. The Bible makes many references of fasting and praying. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions.

Teach US to pray

Thank You, Father, that Jesus has born my sin and intercedes for me, that because of His blood, shed for me, I have confidence to enter Your Most Holy Presence. I want to draw near to You with a sincere heart in full assurance that as I call on You, you will answer me and show me great and unsearchable things that I do not know. Teach me to pray O God! Teach me to pray Your heart, Your will, Your Word. Forgive me, Lord, for I am often self-focused in Your presence and give into the worries of this life and miss the blessing of praying Your heart for your Church and the world around me.

Empower me by Your Spirit to intercede for others and Your work around the world. May I become one that You call on, even in the watches of the night, to “build up the wall” and stand in the gap on the behalf of others – and may I respond when You call.

May the burden and intensity of the needs of a lost world, my brothers and sisters in Christ and my community of faith so overtake me, that I cannot keep silent day or night before You. Make me to be a watchman for Your Kingdom Father! Like Anna, may I never leave Your presence, but learn to worship, fast and pray continually. Teach me what it means to be persistent in prayer until I receive the answer, – to always pray and never give up.

Help me to rise before dawn and cry out to You, always putting my hope in the promises of Your Word. May Your Word be in my heart like a burning fire and Your promises my constant meditation. Mold me Father, into a prayer-warrior for Your Kingdom. Teach me to pray in Your Spirit that I might become one who is truly devoted to prayer and who participates with You in Your work, even to the ends of the earth! May prayer truly become the foundation of my living that I might be one who is found faithful, always praying –refusing to give up. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A Prayer for Plainfield NJ – Community

I acknowledge that your plans and purposes for me are perfect and that you have placed at Focus that I might participate in your plan for this neighborhood. Open my eyes to see where you are at work and help me to eagerly enter in I pray.

May Jesus be seen in me, the very light of His presence, in the way I acknowledge and greet others, and reach out to those around me. Father may the presence and power of the Holy Spirit be poured out on my dwelling place, drawing those around me to Yourself. Open the eyes of the hearts of those I encounter and make them hungry to know You. I pray Your blessing over the streets of Plainfield.  Open blind eyes! Set captives free! May Jesus be revealed to the hearts of those all around the city.

Help me to minister Your love and compassion to all that I encounter. Use me I pray that my life might be woven into the grand tapestry of Your perfect plan for this city! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today I pray for yet more laborers. Lord of the harvest, send more workers into this Vineyard at Focus. Help the workers who are already here to realize their calling as a “harvester” of your kingdom. May your people see the ministry you have given them right where they work. Give your laborers wisdom, so that we might serve you well, reaping a rich harvest for your kingdom. Amen.

Pray for diligent workers.

Pray for surrendered workers.

Pray for faith-filled workers.

Pray for courageous workers.

Pray for humble workers.

Pray for Christ-centered workers.

We must pray that God will send teenage laborers who will engage this culture with Jesus’ love.

We must pray that God will send laborers of every ethnicity to reach people of every language and culture.

We must pray that we are willing to become the answer to our prayer.

Prayer for Non-Believer

Father, forgive me for my selfish disregard for my friends and neighbors who are lost in their sins and trespasses. I pray that You might break my heart for the lost, and that I might give myself to earnest intercession for their salvation. And help me to present a loving witness to them as I have opportunity. Give me the passion of Paul for a world that has lost its way.

And now I pray for ______ that they might be drawn to Jesus Christ for salvation. I pray that You, O Lord, might cause them to see their sins, and that they might cry to You and be saved. Lord, make them discontent with their self-help solutions and their misguided quest for personal peace and significance. Show them the glories of Jesus, not just as Savior, but as Lord and King. Cause them to believe on Him and be saved.
