Time margin – Audio Message – 11/5/17

Message Notes

What Is Margin, Exactly?
Margin is the space that we allow ourselves between tasks. It allows us to finish what we were doing and start up the next task. It allows us to avoid overwork and over commitment by limiting what we can do.
The Problem
Exodus 20:8-11 NLT

Exodus 20:8-11New Living Translation (NLT)
“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
Main Point
Here’s the main point of this message: We were created not just to produce, but to enjoy.
Q: What is the chief purpose of humanity?
A: To love God and enjoy him always.
Mark 2:27-28 NLT
27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.28 So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”

Our time is limited.

All of our time will be SPENT doing something.

Someone will determine how you will spend ALL your time.

1.  We Realize Our Days Are Numbered By God

Job 14:5 You have decided the length of our lives. You know how many months we will live, and we are not given a minute longer.

2.  We Prioritize with God

Ephesians 5:15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.

3.  We Make Time With God #1 Priority

Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Let’s focus on TWO THINGS. Lock them in:
·         SPEND TIME on Prayer  & Scripture Reading
·         SPEND TIME on REST
Discussion Questions
The “normal” pattern of today’s society is busyness, meaning that if we are not busy we are not productive. What  things in your life are keeping you too busy? How is that busyness affecting all areas of your life?
Describe a time when you said “no” to something good that ultimately allowed you to say “yes” to God’s best.
What are the things in your life that you value most? Does the way you use your time reflect those values? Why or  why not?
Next Steps
Ask God in prayer to give you the strength to say no to good things so that you can say yes to His best.
