Fruit Of The Spirit: Kindness/Goodness

Galatians 5:22-26

22 But the fruit that comes from having the Holy Spirit in our lives is: love, joy, peace, not giving up, being kind, being good, having faith, 23 being gentle, and being the boss over our own desires. The Law is not against these things. 24 Those of us who belong to Christ have nailed our sinful old selves on His cross. Our sinful desires are now dead.

25 If the Holy Spirit is living in us, let us be led by Him in all things.26 Let us not become proud in ways in which we should not. We must not make hard feelings among ourselves as Christians or make anyone jealous.

Kindness, Goodness: “Be kind to one another…” Ephesians 4:32

What kindness (compassionate acts) did Jesus perform?

Matthew 9:35-37 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Matthew 15:32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

Mark 1:40-42 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” 41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured. NIV

Matthew 14:14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. NIV

Applying the Word: Is there something “good” that God has been prompting you to do? How can you reach out TODAY to someone in kindness and goodness? (e.g. Bake some goodies; write a note; make a call, visit someone in need; look for a place where you can serve… and then sign up!)
