REFRESH WEDNESDAY’S – Sept. 19, 2018

SILENCE AND CENTERING (2 MINUTES)

Psalm 46:10 (NLT)

“Be still, and know that I am God  I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Confession:

God of our hearts, we are a lost, broken people who spend our lives chasing things that don’t matter. We go our own way, we have our own agenda, and we play by the rules we have created.  We are independent and full of pride. Forgive us for living like we don’t need You. We are lost, but You come searching for us. We are broken, but You put us back together. We need You to rescue us. We need You to save us. May our identity come only from the experience of Your grace, and may we rest knowing that in You we are found. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Psalm 116:1-9

1 I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. 2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. 4 Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, save my life!” 5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. 6 The Lord protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. 7 Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. 8 For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. 9 I walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

PRAYER

Thank You Father, that all things have been placed under the authority and
feet of Jesus! Therefore as those who are in Christ, may we put off fear and
timidity and live out the Gospel with greater confidence and joy. (Ephesians
1:22; 2 Timothy 1:7)

Forgive us for the ways that we have trusted in other things and looked in
other places for comfort and security (relationships, job security, finances,
governments…) rather than trusting in You. (Psalm 20:7) (Pause and be still before
the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to reveal the places in your life where you are depending on
something other than God.)

Remind us by the Holy Spirit, I pray, that we are dead to our transgressions
and sins and alive in Christ! Awaken the sleeping places of our lives to this
great truth. (Ephesians 2:1, 5)

May each of us Father, use the gifts that You have given to us to serve others,
that we might be faithful in dispensing Your grace. (1 Peter 4:10)

Proverbs 1:20-33

20 Wisdom cries out in the street; in the squares she raises her voice. 21 At the busiest corner she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? 23 Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused, have stretched out my hand and no one heeded, 25 and because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic strikes you, 27 when panic strikes you like a storm, and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, 30 would have none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof, 31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way and be sated with their own devices. 32 For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them; 33 but those who listen to me will be secure and will live at ease, without dread of disaster.”
