Silence, Stillness and Centering before God (2 Minutes)
Scripture Reading & Devotional:
God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
Psalm 68:35 (NLT)
There are a lot of things that we need to make it through this life. Sometimes it is hard to ascertain what exactly to ask God for. Today’s verse sets good guidelines to help us when we pray. First, God is awesome. We have every reason to ask for His miraculous power to intervene in our situations. He can heal, change circumstances or move in the hearts of people. We need to ask and expect God to be awesome on behalf of His people. And yet, there is another side. Today’s verse also says that God gives power and strength to His people. Although we can ask God to show His love to others, hasn’t He commanded you and I to be His ambassadors of love? Paul wrote, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” And who knew this better than David? After all, it was David who picked up the stone and aimed at Goliath, but God directed the stone. David said to Goliath, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.” God created you and me to be His ministers in this world, and He gives us the strength and power to do it. What a magnificent plan. God, with His power working with and through us to do His will in this world. No wonder David ended by saying, “Praise be to God!”
Father, I can’t live the life You want me to without Your power. Nor do I want to try. I come today and ask You to guide me, direct me, and fill me with Your power and strength. May You show Yourself strong through all I say and do. To You be all the Glory!
Question to consider: Which word or phrase stands out to you. What might God be saying to you?)
God, I thank you for all that you helped me accomplish during this day. Thank you for giving me the strength and energy, as well as the focus and ability to do all the things that got done today. Thank you for blessing me with people in my life today who were funny or encouraging or helpful. Thank you for your favor and care for me throughout the day. And now, I thank you for sweet rest throughout the night. Amen.
Heavenly Father, you are always with me. As I lie down in bed to sleep, I am reminded that you sustain me. I am not conscious of the processes continuing in my body while I sleep, but you know every cell in my body. As I sleep, help me to leave behind the troubles of today and forgive those who have sinned against me. When I wake, let me be reminded that my sins have been forgiven and your mercies are new every morning. Watch over me. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Conclude with Silence (5 Minutes)
The Our Father (slowly pray this)
Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever, Amen.
