Evening Prayer – June 2, 2021

Silence, Stillness and Centering before God (2 Minutes)

Scripture Reading & Devotional:

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Ephesians 6:10-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We need to remember that we are in a spiritual world and there is a war going on. We have an enemy of our very soul. But unlike a regular war, in this war, we have an incredible advantage. Though there are powers against us, Paul tells us that we have the mighty power of God to help us every step of the way. Though we are in a fight, God has given us all the armor we need to be victorious. In actuality, it is not our war, it is God’s, and as we trust in Him, put on His armor, use His might and not ours, He assures us that when it is all over, we will be standing firm. Today, put all your trust in Him. Put on His armor and live today by faith, for this is true; the victory is ours.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I cannot win this spiritual battle in my own power. I ask for Your guidance to guide me and Your might to be my strength. Today I put on Your armor of righteousness, truth, the word, faith, the message of Your grace and gospel, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Lead me in spiritual victory today, I pray. AMEN

Question to consider: Which word or phrase stands out to you. What might God be saying to you?)

Evening Prayer:

God, I thank you for all that you helped me accomplish during this day. Thank you for giving me the strength and energy, as well as the focus and ability to do all the things that got done today. Thank you for blessing me with people in my life today who were funny or encouraging or helpful. Thank you for your favor and care for me throughout the day. And now, I thank you for sweet rest throughout the night. Amen.

Heavenly Father, you are always with me. As I lie down in bed to sleep, I am reminded that you sustain me. I am not conscious of the processes continuing in my body while I sleep, but you know every cell in my body. As I sleep, help me to leave behind the troubles of today and forgive those who have sinned against me. When I wake, let me be reminded that my sins have been forgiven and your mercies are new every morning. Watch over me. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Conclude with Silence (5 Minutes)

The Our Father (slowly pray this)
Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever, Amen.
