Theme: Money Matters

Text: 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Outline

1. MONEY CAN BE A BLESSING OR A CURSE.

But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. – 1 Tim 6:9-10

Greed: a selfish and excessive desire for more of something.

It warps our desires.

It blinds us to the truth about ourselves.

Because it promises security but doesn’t give it.

More is never enough. Greed is addictive.

How do we avoid this trap of the desire for more?

A. Learn contentment from Jesus

Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, because God has said ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”

B. Learn generosity from Jesus.

C.Put our hope where it belongs – in Jesus.

christmas-love

Read Jeremiah 31:3

Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

 John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

OUTLINE

  1. He has loved us, not with a love that is merely in the past, but with a love that is for all time.

Reflection Question:

What is it about John 3:16 that you really cherish and value?

What kind of hope, peace and strength do you get from the scriptures used in today’s Message?

Challenge:

As you live your life this week, know that you are loved and valued by God. He sent his only Son to die so that you could have life. Realize that in Christ, you are free from condemnation and you are promised eternal life. May this realization give you joy, purpose, and meaning?

  1. God will DEFEND.

26 But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when the truth will be revealed: their secret plots will become public information.27 “What I tell you now in the gloom, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ears, proclaim from the housetops! – Matt 10:26-27
